Cause of hemorrhoids
Discover how to eliminate the main factors of hemorrhoids development

 The exact cause of hemorrhoids is unknown. The major contributing factor appears to be too much pressure on the veins in the rectum. If the pressure continues, the veins become enlarged and protrude. Factors that can put pressure on the veins  and develop hemorrhoids include:

  • straining at bowel movement-this may happen if you’re constipated or if you have diarrhea;
  • frequent constipation and diarrhea;
  • sitting on the toilet too long -when you sit on the toilet, your anus relaxes and the veins in your anus fill with blood, veins become engorged and hemorrhoids flared up ;
  • holding back or delaying emptying of the bowels;
  • sitting or standing for prolonged periods;
  •  violent coughing or coughing and sneezing often;
  • lifting heavy objects or even lifting light objects improperly;
  • pregnancy and the strain of childbirth- pregnant women often get hemorrhoids because of the weight of carrying the baby, hormonal changes and also from giving birth.
Other factors that play role in developing hemorrhoids are:
  • heredity- people whose parents had hemorrhoids may be more likely to get them;
  • sedentary lifestyle;
  • obesity;
  •  food allergies;
  • lack of exercises;
  • liver disease;
  • flat footedness- it causes change in the posture and use of the lower leg
    which slows down blood circulation in the lower part of the body;
  • insufficient hydration: drinking less water or drinking too much of diuretic liquids such as coffee or colas can cause a hard stool that can lead to hemorrhoid irritation;
  • tumors in the pelvis also cause enlargement of hemorrhoids by pressing on veins draining upwards from the anal canal;
  • an excess of lactic acid in the stool: a product of excessive consumption of milk products such as cheese can cause irritation and a reduction of consumption can bring relief;
  • it has been observed that many people who have hemorrhoids experience increased levels of certain  enzymes that break down the veins' elasticity;
  • cardiac disease-bleeding may also occur due to the dilatation because of the back-pressure on the venous system from cardiac disease, this may serve as a safety valve as the superior hemorrhoidal vein has no valves and supports the pressure all the way from where the portal vein enters the liver.

Flare-ups of hemorrhoids may occur during:

  •  periods of stress;
  •  as a result of overuse of alcohol.
